When I was younger, my dad gave me Sufi Healing. Later, my late mother bought me Eat Right for Your Blood Type. Those books shaped how I see health not just physical, but also spiritual. Today, I find myself looking for something similar but from a different perspective and I came across a classical Arabic discussion on health, drawn from the works of Imam Ibn al-Qayyim, particularly Zad al-Ma’ad and Al-Tibb al-Nabawi, which extensively document the dietary and lifestyle practices of the Prophet ﷺ . It led me to reflect on something we rarely think about, the kidney. Every single day, your kidneys process roughly 180 litres of blood- derived fluid . You didn’t ask them to. You didn’t notice and most likely, you didn’t thank them. We often simplify the kidney as a filter. But that is an understatement. Your kidneys: regulate fluid balance maintain sodium, potassium, and calcium levels help control blood pressure support red blood cell production maintain acid–base balance in the body Every second, they make decisions on what to keep and what to remove. Quietly. Precisely. Consistently. Modern medicine has advanced significantly. Yet even dialysis, one of the greatest medical interventions can only replace a limited portion of kidney function . Which brings us to a humbling realisation: the human body is not just biological; and it is deeply complex, precise, and interconnected 180 Litres a Day 180 Litres a Day andWe Never andWe Never Even Notice Even Notice
