page 2 It’s not always easy. Sometimes it’s messy. You might make mistakes, have tough days, or run into challenges that seem impossible. But here’s the secret, every single one of those moments is an opportunity to grow. It’s about digging deep, asking the hard questions, and constantly checking in with yourself: “Am I doing the best I can? Am I listening enough? Am I truly making a difference?” Growth isn’t just about skills, it’s about you. Of course skills matter. Whether it’s learning new technology, improving communication, or mastering conflict resolution, those are all part of the package, but growth as a public servant is also deeply personal. It’s about becoming more resilient, more compassionate, and more aware of the impact you’re having on others. It’s about being a better human in the process of doing your job. That means building emotional intelligence, being able to understand your own emotions, but also picking up on the feelings of others. It means staying grounded when things get tough, and being open to change when you need to shift your approach. It's about learning to lead with both your mind and your heart. When I was with Huawei Malaysia under the Cross Fertilisation Programme by JPA from September 2024 until September 2025, I find my experience and journey very transformational. I managed to connect Huawei with government ministries and agencies for potential collaborations especially with the Ministry of Digital and their agencies for collaborations on Smart City (which is to be established in Malaysia), Cybersecurity and to empower industries with sustainable Artifical Intelligence (AI). These initiatives are all part of the Madani Government’s commitment for private and public sector digital transformation. Through the AI powered smart governance, digital permits and smart city planning, public sector can be as agile and innovative as the private sector by delivering faster services, reducing bureaucracy and enhancing the quality of life for the people. Malaysia aspires to be an AI Nation in 2030. We arranged a working trip by YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital to Huawei HQ in Shenzhen in July 2025, where he and his agencies were introduced to the expertise and global success stories in the field of government and public services in China. They also had the opportunity to gain insights on managing a national command centre (which is considered to be established in Malaysia) as a critical enabler in our digital government transformation journey. I see the collaborations and partnerships between the government and corporate sectors as an opportunity for the corporate sectors to provide the cutting edge solutions and technology which in return can drive the infrastructure growth, improve the public services and boost the nation’s economy. The experience and journey has taught me to think with a global mindset. A growth mindset is for the long haul. In the end, growth isn’t a destination. It’s a lifelong journey, and it’s one you take every single day. Whether it’s in a meeting, at a community event, or in the quiet moments of reflection, there’s always something new to learn, always room to grow. That’s what makes public service so powerful. You’re not just improving your skills, you’re becoming a better person, better able to serve and support the community. So, stay focused. Stay curious. Stay humble. Stay hungry to learn, because when you grow, the people around you grow, too. That’s the real impact of public service, transforming lives, one lesson at a time.
