As I focused on the road ahead, something simple caught my attention. The tyres. Then a random thought came. Why are tyres always black? Why not pink or green or any other colour? It seems like such a small question but the answer is surprisingly interesting. Originally, tyres were not black. They were actually white, made from natural rubber. But white tyres came with limitations. They were softer. They wore out quickly. They were not able to withstand prolonged heat, friction, and pressure especially for long-distance travel. As vehicles became faster and roads became longer, the need for stronger tyres became more important. That’s when manufacturers introduced something called carbon black . Carbon black is a fine material added into rubber to enhance its properties. Why Are Tyres Always Black?
