88 TAILORING THRIVINGAT WORKPLACE Many discussions and suggestions in the literature present ideas on how individual employees can thrive in the workplace. According to Brown et al. (2017), numerous psychosocial aspects facilitate thriving in work performance and well-being. They categorize these aspects into two types of enablers: personal enablers and contextual enablers. Personal enablers reflect attitudes, cognitions, and behaviors that help individual employees thrive. These include a positive perspective, religiosity and spirituality, a proactive personality, motivation, knowledge and learning, psychological resilience, and social competencies. Contextual enablers imply the environmental characteristics that bolster employee thriving in the workplace, including a challenging environment, attachment and trust, family support, and support from colleagues and employers. However, how can employees facilitate personal and contextual aspects to become thriving enablers? Britt and Jex (2015) propose three strategies for individual employees to tailor thriving: recognizing workplace demands, developing a positive sense of meaning and purpose at work, and detaching from work through energy-restoring activities. Additionally, Spreitzer and Porath (2014) advocate for employees to infuse their work with meaning, actively pursue opportunities for knowledge acquisition, cultivate relationships that energize them, and prioritize their health and well-being. Their postulations align in advocating for a positive perspective to foster a sense of positive meaning and purpose at work. Meaning and purpose at work are fundamental aspects of optimal functioning and performance among employees (Crea & Francis, 2022). The sense of meaning and purpose in work is associated with the development of a healthy identity, reinforcing individual employees to voluntarily commit to their tasks to serve the perceived meaning and purpose (Bronk, 2011).
