92 THE INTRODUCTION High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder to formerly known as Asperger’s Syndrome was first discovered by Hans Asperger in 1944. Her reported cases of children who are not intellectually impaired but who have difficulty sustaining conversations, problems to follow instructions, have difficulty forming friendships, do not play well with others and become intensely absorbed in something that attract their interest. The name of Asperger’s Syndrome was later changed to High Functioning Autism Symptoms Disorder (HFASD) in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 (DSM-5) to diagnosed children with Autism Spectrum and IQ of 70 or above (Hiraiwa, 2012). However, in the journey facilitating civil servants with HFASD and their family members, there was a significant distinct in referring to information about “Asperger’s Syndrome” and “HFASD”. Often, the article, websites, blog explaining Asperger’s Syndrome can explain their condition better as compared to material about HFASD. The reason often due to civil servant enrolled in civil services are normally shows exceptionally academic achievement, broad knowledge on particular area (science, mathematics, engineering or history), confident speaker and good writing skills. These qualities are resembling the characteristic of individual of Gifted Asperger’s Syndrome with profound talent in certain area but difficulties to social with people. Therefore, the client or family members often confused by the material on website when they search on the keywords: HFASD. Many family member’s feedbacks they relate better when they read about Asperger’s Syndrome. Hence, the paper is aimed to explore the uniqueness of civil servant with HFASD and suggestion for superiors and colleagues to harness their potential in the workplace.
