page 2 There is a message in that for us. In public service, especially in safeguarding the nation’s well-being, we often look toward the future with new policies, new expectations, new challenges. But magnolias remind us that strength begins with history. We are shaped by the sacrifices before us, guided by the values handed down, and strengthened by the experiences that built our institutions. This is exactly why reformmatters. Reform is not about abandoning our past but it is about honouring it enough to improve what must evolve. Just as magnolias adapted to a world that changed around them, we too must acknowledge when systems no longer serve today’s needs. Reform demands courage, but it also demands memory, understanding where we began, what shaped us, and what must be preserved as we build a stronger, more responsive future for the nation. True reform respects history while refusing to be limited by it. When we honour our origins, we move forward with clarity. When we remember our roots, we stand unshaken and when we embody our values, we become a shield not just for ourselves, but for the country we serve. Magnolias have survived over 100 million years because they understood their purpose and held onto what made them strong. Perhaps that is the reminder we need today: Know your history. Learn from it. Grow beyond it. In the end, “Kitalah Benteng Negara”. Dr. Diyana binti Hassim Corporate Communications Unit Public Service Department
