JPA | 44 “The Adminstrative and Diplomatic Service officers (PTD), the armed forces and the police need to be loyal while serving the goverment; however, the allegiance must not lead o committing crimes.” Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad conveyed important messages to Administrative and Diplomatic Service (PTD) officers at a Town Hall Session held at Perdana Hall, Putrajaya International Convention Centre on Wednesday, 15 August 2018. The event was attended by 3700 officers from all over Malaysia. Organised by the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) in collaboration with the Administrative and Diplomatic Service Association (PPTD), the session was also joined by YAB Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister, YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Ali Hamsa, Chief Secretary to the Goverment, YBhg. Datuk Borhan Dollah, Director-General of Public Service, YBhg. Dato Lokman Hakim Ali, Secretary-General of Youth and Sports Ministry cum Acting President of PPTD and a few Cabinet Ministers. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of separation of power between three main branches of the democratic systems namely executive, legislativea dn judicial. This separation of power will ascertain that checks and balances are established in the Goverment administration. During the interactive session, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad reitrated that PTD officers should always uphold moral values such as clean, efficient, trustworthy and disciplined. As leaders in the public service PTD officers should demonstrate and exemplify these values to their subordinates The session with the theme, “Way Forward, The Rise of Authentic Leadership’ provided a platform for PTD officers to understand and appreciate the aspirations of the Prime Minister as well as an avenue for them to exchange opinion and perspectives with the premier leader of the country. Participantsalso had the opportunity to ask questions and express their views via online application. Such an initiative received encouraging response where 207 questions and views were put foward using the application. Among the suggestions set forth to the Prime Minister was for the sign-off phrase ‘I who obey orders’ to be replaced with ‘I who carry out the trust’ which reflects that goverment officers are entrusted by the public to execute their duties and responsibilities as best as possible.
