24 Varia Ranah: Sorotan Ilmiah Perkhidmatan Awam Challenges Faced by Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) In Addressing the Fake News Ahmad Fahmi bin Kamarudin, M44 ABSTRACT The study conducted identified five significant challenges faced by MCMC posed by imminent threat triggered by fake news. The analysis concluded seven potential strategies, which could reduce the risks, mitigate and efficiently solve the issues faced by MCMC in addressing the fake news. Some of the possible approaches could be used as an input to MCMC policymaking and law enhancement especially in determining risk, business impact, and threat level of forthcoming issues of fake news in the future. The reference focuses on the comparative analysis between Malaysia and Singapore in term legislation and policies. The analysis emphases on the role of Singapore’s agency who has similar function with MCMC which is the Info-Communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) that responsible for the issue of fake news. Furthermore, the analysis also included the comparative studies on Malaysia’s Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and Singapore’s Telecommunications Act. Because this particular study is only concentrating on MCMC challenges in dealing with fake news in Malaysia social media landscape, the scope for future research should be broadened which covers bigger perspective such as the impact towards social, political and even economy. As the broader the scope cover, the closer the gap the researchable to be determined and improvised.
