A point to note is that gig work is heavily influenced by demand whereby it makes the gig employees very much vulnerable to the fluctuations within the economy thus exposing such employees to an absence of work at times. This inconsistency and lack of stability has created job insecurity for many gig workers, especially those who are heavily reliant on gigs from an industry as a form of employment or are unable or unwilling to undertake tasks in other areas of discipline. To top it all, it`s a dog-eat-dog world out there and the marketplace will not wait as it will be for the survival of the fittest. So, as we watch the pace of change in the global scenario, it is thus incumbent for the gig worker to continuously adopt and adapt just as quickly to their surroundings to stay relevant. Overall, holistically speaking, even though the gig economy has its own imperfections, it has however proven to be beneficial to both the employees and employers. Both its positive and negative attributes are likened to two (2) sides of the same coin! As elucidated above, the gig economy is gaining traction and continue to grow at a steady pace despite its malefic attributes. Companies, gig workers and governments/organizations need to work together to face the many difficulties to make this new economy work in the most effective manner. Hence, in saying this, the utilization of gig employees can be positive provided they are used in the right circumstances and it suits the operations of the business. In conclusion, if the future remains uncertain, the gig economy is here to stay!
