Not as a “diet list”, not as a trend, and not as a TikTok health hack but as a reminder that food is never just nutrition. Food is rizq. Food is ni‘mah. Food is barakah. Food is a sign. Let’s start with honey — a food that is explicitly described as having healing for people. In Ramadan, we aren’t only hungry for meals. We’re hungry for healing too which healing of the heart, the habits, the relationships, and the soul . Honey reminds us that sometimes shifa’ comes quietly, and sometimes barakah shows up in the simplest things. It’s the first day of Ramadan and it’s mind-blowing to realise Ramadan is back in February/March again after more than 30 years. The last time it began in February was 1995. This happens because the Islamic calendar follows the moon, so Ramadan shifts earlier every year and completes a full cycle through the seasons roughly every 33 years. Since Ramadan is a month where we think about food a little differently, not just what we eat, but why we eat, I thought today would be a beautiful time to reflect on something simple and timeless:
